Rantday: Too Much To Race – Sims and Mods Be Damned!

Over the past few days, especially since the Assetto Corsa EVO trailer came out, I’ve been itching to drive so many different things. And there are so many possibilities of things to do. It’s somewhat amazing. There is just too much to race and too little time.

Since When Are We So Spoiled With Choice?

I can choose to do ranked racing in any of the games I want to spend more time in. That’s iRacing, Le Mans Ultimate, RaceRoom and Assetto Corsa Competizione via LFM. Technically, I could also do rFactor 2 or AMS2 with their respective systems. Yet, I cannot do a single one.

Time really is too little for the amount of content we have. Even if I don’t do official ranked races, there is loads to do in the modding space. Assetto Corsa with its seemingly trillions of mods, rFactor 2 with the same on a smaller stage or even go to some more classic alternatives. I haven’t tried Stadium Super Trucks in Automobilista 1 in a while.

It almost makes me sad to have so much choice. And I genuinely enjoy every single one of whatever I just mentioned.

The Upside

However, this is the day and age we live in. Pretty much everything we do, every decision we take, we have an abundance of choice. There are so many possibilities. So many different ways of achieving the same goal. The time we live in is both a blessing and a curse.

Obscure circuits that don’t see international racing get posted in modding forums. Cars that people associate childhood memories with are available at the press of a button. And even more, you can even share this piece of memory with other people online.

Sim racing allows for choices such as driving classic N-GT cars across Automotodrom Brno.

Having a meetup in a free-roam server, hosting a track-day, or just participating in a good old race. Everything is possible almost instantaneously.

There is something for everyone. There is not everything (yet) but a good number of the more renowned stuff, tracks and cars, is readily available.

What’s The Takeaway

Honestly, no idea.

I don’t want to focus on one or few of the stuff I mentioned above. I want that all to be my life at the moment.

Time is the big constraint here. I guess being happy about the possibilities we do have is what I should focus on. Get a more healthy mindset. Focus on the positives.

Mantras be damned, I just want to race!

However, I have other things to do. Developing web applications, writing articles, studying for university, working my day job. There is little time for racing amongst all that. Resting is also important.

I hope that I get to race what I want sooner rather than later.
